Hello again!
“In art, you’re stuck with your own personality. Who you are is also your fate.”
Recently, I came across and was struck by the above quotation attributed to the artist Joe Tilson, known particularly for his contribution to the pop art movement. In retrospect, too often in the past I was influenced by expert opinion as to the technical nature of a good image. Now I simply capture ‘adrenalin moments’ and hope to share them in a form that will connect with others.
At this point in my journey I am shooting almost exclusively in black and white and increasingly drawn the genre I tended to dismiss – Street. It wasn’t a planned direction of travel, but my response to what I see and feel as I look around is often best captured within those ‘parameters’. I should acknowledge here that many would challenge my interpretation of the genre, but so be it. My captures are driven by the immediacy of raw moments and it is that ‘excitement’ that I try to share.
Subconsciously drawing from the well of my past experiences my imagination grabs, interprets and reworks the moment to turn the two dimensions into a three dimensional experience. The consequent reaction of the viewers and the thoughts provoked will vary, but it may be that some of what I ’saw’ is seen by others. I hope so.
The new gallery now on the site is a collection of Street moments. One particular aspect of these images which drew me in was the body language of the figures. I hope you enjoy the gallery.
